About the Peaceful, Quiet Town of Barnegat Light NJ

If you want quiet and a chance to take in some local culture then Barnegat Light is the place to be. Barnegat Light is a peaceful, quiet town that remains so even when the summer population swells. There are quaint gift and antique shops, restaurants, places of worship, a public boat ramp, playgrounds, recreation and places to buy fresh seafood practically right from the docks. It is home to Viking Village and Barnegat Light State Park as well as the Barnegat Light Museum. Our island’s most famous landmark, Barnegat Lighthouse, of course resides here as well.

Viking Village hosts antique shows throughout the summer and is home to the commercial fishing boats where you can take a tour and learn about the local fishing industry. The Barnegat Lighthouse is open to the public and provides anyone who is ambitious enough to climb all 217 stairs an incredible view of the inlet, island and Island Beach State Park to the north. The north jetties along the inlet provides a great place to fish, bird watch or just relax and watch the fishing boats come and go.
